The Seed Circle & The Ministry of Presence

A Sacred Offering of Comfort and Connection by Minister Emily Rhoades

The Seed Circle is simple at its heart. It is like tending a garden: every person is a seed, every act of kindness is water, and every moment of listening becomes sunlight. When we gather in this circle, we are tending one another’s growth. We do not come with perfect answers or polished words. We simply show up — present, open, and willing to care.

What Is the Ministry of Presence?

The Ministry of Presence is the sacred act of being with someone in their moment of need. It is sitting beside a person who feels alone and reminding them they are seen. It is holding a hand when words fall short, allowing silence to become a sanctuary. It is offering comfort without trying to fix everything, trusting that sometimes love itself is enough.

And I want you to know this:

When you face problems and need someone to talk to, I am here. When your heart is heavy and you need a shoulder to cry on, I am here. When you simply need someone to listen — because every one of us needs that — I am here.

This is the calling God has placed on my life: to be present. To create a circle where no one is forgotten, where every seed has room to grow, and where compassion becomes the soil of healing.

So when you hear the words “The Seed Circle,” know that it is a place of care, connection, and sacred presence. A place where we water one another’s spirits, and where God’s love brings even the smallest seed into bloom.

The Seed Circle

Sermon by Minister Emily Rhoades — Sunday, May 10, 2026

“The Grace of Small Beginnings”

Beloved friends, today I want to speak to you about something tender, something often overlooked, yet deeply powerful in the Kingdom of God: the grace of small beginnings.

In Zechariah 4:10, the Lord asks a question that echoes through every generation: “For who hath despised the day of small things?” It is a reminder that God does not measure greatness the way we do. He does not look for the loudest voice, the biggest platform, or the most impressive offering. He looks for the seed — the small beginning — the quiet yes.

Every great work of God begins as something small. A whisper. A stirring. A single act of kindness. A prayer spoken in the dark. A seed placed gently into the soil.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 13:31–32 that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed — the smallest of all seeds — yet when planted, it becomes a tree large enough for the birds to rest in its branches. That is the mystery of God’s work: He takes what is small and grows it into shelter, strength, and blessing.

In The Seed Circle, we honor these beginnings. We honor the quiet acts no one sees. We honor the prayers whispered through tears. We honor the courage it takes to start again when life has worn you thin.

Because every seed carries a promise. Every seed holds potential. Every seed is a testimony waiting to bloom.

Some of you today feel like your offering is too small. Your strength is too small. Your faith is too small. Your hope is barely hanging on.

But hear me, beloved: God does His best work with what feels small. He breathes on it. He nurtures it. He multiplies it. He turns it into something you could never imagine.

A single word of encouragement can lift a weary soul. A single visit can restore dignity. A single prayer can shift the atmosphere of a home. A single act of compassion can plant a seed of healing that grows for generations.

This is why we gather. This is why we light candles. This is why we share our stories. This is why we tend to one another with gentleness and grace.

Because in this circle, no seed is wasted. No beginning is too small. No offering is overlooked by God.

So today, I invite you to bring your seed — whatever it may be. Bring your small beginning. Bring your quiet hope. Bring your trembling prayer. Bring the little you have, and place it in the hands of the One who makes all things grow.

And may we, as a community, water one another’s seeds with kindness, sunlight, and presence. May we celebrate the small things. May we nurture the beginnings. May we trust that God is already at work beneath the soil.

Because in the Kingdom of God, every seed matters. And every small beginning carries the promise of a holy bloom.

Amen.

“This seed of presence is planted with love—may it grow in every quiet moment.”

Shared Mission

Both ministries stand on the same sacred foundation: presence, healing, and compassionate connection.

The Seed Circle Nurtures spiritual growth through ritual, reflection, and the gentle rhythms of the seasons — helping each soul grow in God’s light.

The Ministry of Presence Offers dignified, compassionate care to the convalescent, the disabled, and the weary through quiet companionship, attentive listening, and tender outreach.

Together, they form one unified calling: to walk beside God’s people with humility, kindness, and steady love.

Core Scripture

Galatians 6:2 (KJV) — “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” This verse is the heartbeat of both ministries, reminding us that shared compassion is sacred work and that every act of presence fulfills Christ’s command to love.

“May every seed of presence we plant grow into compassion, healing, and shared hope.”
